The singer says he’s been a puppet, a pauper, a pirate, a poet, a pawn and a king. Substitute queen and you pretty much have my resume. These days I also teach and edit and I write and write and write. My work falls roughly into the major genres — fiction non-fiction, playwriting and lyrical essay but I’ve strayed from those occasionally and, like any artist, I dig those
interstices. Despite this flipping among genre, which in some eras gets you dubbed “Renaissance” and in others “ADD,” there has always been one constant love. I love language, in all its iterations, in the body, the mouth, the mind and especially on the page. My major project is my novel The Analysand, which is almost ready for its close up.
